Well it’s been a while since I’ve posted and a lot has happened. Fair warning, it’s pretty much all bad news. It has taken me a few weeks to come to grips with what was happening but I’m in a good place now to be able to share with everyone what is going on.
So as many of you know, I went in for scans on Dec 23. Well on Dec 24, I turned yellow. Not cause I’m Asian…lol…but because of jaundice. So I was immediately sent to the ER on Christmas Eve to get observed and figure out what was going on. While there, they did another scan of my body and well, let’s say when your oncologist visits you in the ER on her day off, it isn’t good news. Scans from the ER showed that while nothing spread, nothing shrank either…as a matter of fact, most grew…not great news. Also means that the current chemo regiment isn’t working and we needed a plan B. We had a heart to heart conversation with the oncologist about the situation and she said is didn’t look good. Not that she was losing hope or anything, but things didn’t look good, especially if they couldnt come up with a plan B. So great way to jump into the holidays season right?
Eventually they let me leave to be home with my family for Christmas Eve. I had lots of crying sessions for the remainder of the week and it took a very long time to have that news sink in, but I also tried to enjoy time with family for the holidays. Plus, with it being a holiday weekend, there was nothing we were going to learn or do until the following week anyways. Christmas with the family was good and I had a great time, but the looming conversation come Monday after Christmas weighed heavily on my mind. What was the new plan? Was there even a new plan? Lots of questions with little answers.
Well Monday comes around and another setback. Good news, there is a plan B. Bad news, I can’t get my chemo treatment that day because my lab numbers came back very elevated, specifically the liver enzymes. So hydration and iron were the only two things I got and then got sent home to see if my numbers come down on their own…which they eventually did, so that was promising. I was actually a little relieved that I didn’t get chemo that week because with the drugs out of my system for 2+ weeks, I was starting to feel good again.
But that didn’t last long…spent the next few days after Christmas just enjoying some time with family and trying not to think about my cancer, but late evening on Dec 30th, I get a call from my oncologist to head to the ER right away. The results from the 23rd finally came in and it turns out I have a blood clot on my right ventricle of the heart. Another blow to my already fragile mind. I did not take that news well, but off I went to the ER. After being triaged in the ER, I was promptly admitted to the oncology floor where I have been ever since. I’m stuck here mainly for observation and to monitor the clot in case it decides to move. Actually, I don’t mind being in the hospital for this cause if anything were to happen, at least I’m already here and they can act right away.
So today marks day 3 in the hospital. It looks like I’ll be here for at least the weekend if not longer. I’m getting a round of blood and potentially a round of chemo while here, but waiting on approvals. They are keeping my fluids and nutrition in check which is good. Hospital food kind of sucks but my folks are bring in food for me as needed. The hospital TV isn’t bad either. Lots of channels to watch and I was able to catch all 4 semi-final college playoff games. The hospital bed is rough and hard to get comfortable it. My back has been hurting a lot laying on it. So now we wait and see what happens next. I’m in high spirits about the situation even with all the bad news, but still hoping that we left all the major complications back in 2025 and 2026 will be a year of successes.
Well that’s it for now. Thanks for reading
Until next time
